Activities, camaraderie, and interesting places to
see and learn about is what makes
this such an interesting, fun, and
dynamic CLUB... The fly-in to visit the Harbor Branch Oceanographic
Institution, in conjunction with the Florida Goldcoast chapter of the 99s,
on January 19th, 2003 was a chance to see one of the world’s leading
oceanographic organizations. Club
members came by land, air, but not sea to visit the 600 acres campus, founded in the early 70’s, located along the Indian River Lagoon.
Traveling by buses the group got a chance to see the mini-submersibles, the
Aquaculture pavilion, Lazarus( a 5 month old dolphin being nursed back to
health after being found when he was just a month old) and other features....
After lunch the group had a
chance to tour the Indian River Lagoon on a pontoon boat to see the wildlife.
Pods of dolphins recognizing the sounds of the boat swam alongside, Bob the
Audobuon Wildlife Warden really must pay these animals a lot of money because
they stayed for a while and gave everyone a chance to see Nature at her best.
It was a gorgeous, “cool” day for the
activity and for flying . It was a little bit hectic and time consuming flying
in and out of this “ Metropolitan” Port
St. Lucie Airport.......but we gave the tower controllers good practice.......... See pictures of
fly-out to Harbor Branch at: http://tamiamiaeroclub.org/030119HarborBranch/index.html
If you are going flying any
time and want to create a mini fly-in just e-mail your fellow Club members and
let them know of your plans. You can
have some company in your plane or at the destination............
The future activities that
have been planned by the Cruise Directors are really a varied representation
of the wonderful things to do in and
around this Sunshine State...take advantage, get involved, meet new people, log
some hours, and just have some plain FUN.....put the dates in your calendar but
be sure to let either Sue Bodley (305)
385-1958 or sue@bodley.net or Bobbi
Lichtiger (305) 444-3458 or bltiger@bellsouthh.net know your intentions........
