May, oh May the days and months are certainly flying by. TAC is busy with
planned activities and our members have been experiencing many activities.
The May 5 and 6 Sea and Air Show in Ft. Lauderdale was a big success and
Dave and Sue Bodley, who experienced it firsthand, said "It was great
fun." (except for the 4 hours to get home!)
The Sunrise Balloon Race and Aviation Days at TMB, May 12 and 13, had five
club members flying formation on Saturday: Larry Ploucha, Sam Sax, Vinnie
Tirado, Garry Pope, and Fred Schlafly. Fred Schlafly and Sheila Bennett
rode/flew in the Sony Balloon (105,000 cubic feet) and ended the flight by
landing in the tomato fields?Sheila said of her first ride in a hot air
balloon "It was fantastic!" Thanks are extended to those members who worked
in conjunction with Weeks Air Museum during this event: Paul Stutsman, John
McBennett, Al DeMaria, and Dave Bodley. The AOPA/TAC table set up was
worthwhile- attracting interest by a couple of people in club membership.
The May 19 fly-out to Venice for lunch at the 44th Aero Squadron was a nice
time for the dozen who attended. Three birds and a bus brought the members
together. Out of townies Charlie and Judy Bukowski drove from Polk City,
and Frank and Shirley Baker flew from Tampa. The turtle cheesecake was the
perfect way for the group to share the ending of the meal??..together!!!!!
May 26 and 27, Weeks Air Museum sponsored a Memorial Day re-enactment. Walt
Orth, Fred Schlafly, Sam Sax, Garry Pope, Vinnie Tirado and a non-club
member participated in bombing runs and formation flights.
The June 1-3 fly-out to Rock Sound (MYER), Eleuthra, Bahamas, was a great
success. Seventeen planes flew in, six from our club, the rest from as far
as Chicago.
June 12-18 is the Cayman Caravan. For information you can go to the web
site http://cayman-caravan.com. Sue Bodley will be compiling a roster of
those planning to go , so contact her and let her know your intentions.

On Saturday, June 23 the club will fly-out to Ft. Pierce to tour the Micco
Aircraft Company. ETA at the factory is 0930. The tour is approximately 1
to 1 ½ hours long. Lunch will be after the tour at the Tiki Restaurant.
The July fly-out date is set at the 22nd, but the destination is up in the
air.. due to weather concerns?so keep on the look out and we will let you
know where we will be flying?.
On Saturday, August 11th we will be having the Annual Summertime (and the
living is easy) BBQ. The location will be Lindbergh's landing. TAC members
can either drive or fly. NOTE: Those pilots wishing to fly to the picnic
are under day VFR restrictions and are required to follow the proper
traffic and communication procedures. Any questions can be addressed to
Paul Stutsman at pstuts@mindspring.com or 305-386-7500.
Specific details will be forthcoming. If anyone is interested in
coordinating or serving on a committee to help with this affair please
contact President Fred and let him know, fschlafly@sprynet.com.
In September, a fly-out to Key West will be taking place, but as of yet the
date has not been selected. This may be an overnight event. More to
follow.
November 17-18, are the dates set for The Homestead/Miami Air Races and
Sport Aviation Competition. Many unique and exciting activities are planned
and TAC members are urged to reserve these days on their calendars. You
will be receiving more information to read as the dates near.
And talk about reading??.
Congratulations to Leslie (Les) R. Space who has been appointed president
of Reliance Aviation, Fort Lauderdale. We read about it in Aviation Week &
Space Technology/May 14, 2001.
Congratulations are also extended to Charlie and Judy Bukowski. Their son,
Steven and his wife just adopted a little boy, and his sister, ages 5 and 3
respectively. They are now the proud grandparents of four.
The Board would like your input. Financially we are in excellent shape and
suggestions on how to spend "some" of the money have been made. Ideas put
on the table were: fuel gift certificates at fly-outs to be won by lottery,
Sporty's gift certificates, free T-shirts, door prizes at the annual
affairs, etc., etc. Please let the Board members know your thoughts.
And speaking of winning things- Randy Davis enjoyed his flight in a Yak
piloted by Fred Schlafly. He won the flight as a door prize at the Annual
Dinner Meeting..
All members are encouraged to join the Board at the next monthly meeting,
Monday, June 11th at 1830. This will be a dinner meeting at Steak 'n Ale,
Kendall and 92th Avenue. Please RSVP to either of the cruise Directors,
Bobbi or Sue.
Visit our Web Site http://sfla.net/tac for pictures and info on these and other activities.
Until next time, fly safely.
