Please
remember that all members are invited to the monthly meetings. The next meeting
will be held March 13, 2001, Tuesday evening at 1830 at the Steak & Ale
restaurant on 97th Avenue off Kendall Drive.
And
speaking of the Annual Dinner Meeting; it was another lovely affair put on by
our Club. The location - Weeks Air Museum - made it seem as if we were on a
movie set in Hollywood! Thanks to the
members who were involved in the organization of this dinner. The many hours of
hard work were evident and everyone had a very nice time
- -
- congratulations to these lucky people who walked away with door prizes:

Our
thanks to the gracious donors of these prizes: You helped brighten the evening
and added fun to the party. Remember
Winners, some comments on your flights/prizes are wanted for our
newsletter!! Speaking as a winner of
last year’s T-6 flight it was an experience that people should try at least
once in their lifetime.
No
dinner meeting would be complete
without a guest speaker, and we were fortunate in deed to have Russ Moreno, FAA
Tower Chief at TMB as out speaker. Russ gave a Pilot Safety Seminar, not
really, but he did speak about how every pilot can act as a backup to others to
improve safety at TMB. He noted how you cannot underestimate the lack of
experience at this airport. During a question and answer period Russ stated
that he “ traded volume with pilot efficiency ” in response to a question
asking him to compare his work at TMB to MIA. He also invited those members
wishing to visit the Tower to do so. Thanks Russ for an informative discussion
and letting us get to know you better.
For
a fun viewing of the evening, as well as other events that TAC has had, visit
our Web Site. Sue and Dave Bodley
have put together a great e-photo
album of the Club's activities. Yes! we can claim world stature and anyone
can see and read what we have done and what we plan to do.
The
February 10th luncheon at Shooters Waterfront Café and the Mystery
Train “Whodunit Show” in Fort Myers was another fabulous activity with 7 of our
aircraft flying into Page Field. Those who went say it was “Mysterious in many,
many ways.” Fifteen people were at the luncheon and 12 stayed the night for the
train ride and show.
If
you are interested in participating in any of the fly-outs but do not have a
plane, please phone either of the Cruise Directors, Bobbi (305-444-3458) or Sue
(305-385-1985) to see if somebody has empty seats for passengers.
On Sunday, February 25, 2001, starting at 0900 a Pancake Breakfast will be held at TMB sponsored by our Club and Reliance Aviation. It will be located on the ramp between Reliance's 2 large hangars.A package of the breakfast and a tour of Weeks Museum and the FSS will be offered. The Breakfast will be sold separately as well. The Club will be cooking and serving the pancakes and sausage, and driving vans between the Museum and Reliance. Club members are needed to help out. Please telephone Paul Stutsman (305-386-7500) to volunteer to cook and serve. Telephone Al DeMaria (305-251-3243) to volunteer to drive. Or speak to either of the Cruise Directors. Let’s all come out and host a fabulous Southern breakfast and show the flying world what TAC members are really like!!!!!!!!
As
added attractions, new Cessna, Piper, Mooney, and Socata airplanes will be on
display with factory representatives
present to provide information.
Also, the Collings Foundation B-17 and B-24 will be arriving at Weeks
Air Museum on the afternoon of the 25th.
SO....promote
this FLY-IN with your friends and other
flying clubs around the State because we would really like to have a LARGE
turnout. Remember the date is Sunday, February 25, 2001.
Bob
Beilman, in addition to being a member of TAC is also President of the Florida
Wing OX5. He asked me to pass along some news about this group. Their Sunday brunch meetings are held on
the second Sunday of each month at the Coral Gables CC. If you want more
information about this organization, call Bob at 305-448-4660.
Congratulations
to Burt Compton who was selected as the FAA Miami FSDO19 Flight Instructor of
the Year. (Thanks Fran for this
lead....)
Congratulations
to Ursula Davidson on the birth of her grandson, Jacob C. Davidson who came in
at 9lbs plus. We wish the baby and his family many happy and healthy years. Now
just have to watch that weight and balance....
We
are looking for some folks willing to work as Party Coordinators. As we all
know planning and organizing the parties (Winter Holiday, Annual Dinner
Meeting, and the Summer BBQ) takes lots of time and effort. It would be much
easier if a couple of people would work together and have others as part of a committee
to do this enormous task. Perhaps it could be done on a rotation basis, where
the committee members could chair the event and everyone else share in the
responsibilities for the affair...THEN it really wouldn’t be an ENORMOUS task...let’s face the old adage "20%
of the people do
80%
of the work” but it really doesn’t have to be this way. In addition to our
flying activities and our support of general aviation, we are a social club and
one way to be social is to share in the doing. So consider this and telephone
President Fred and let him know at 305-385-9707.
Also,
Ladies and Gentlemen, for future major events planning when we have a deadline
set it will be necessary to adhere to that deadline, whether it is for some
activity, an overnight fly-out, or a party. We can all appreciate how difficult
it is to do this planning and even though we really want EVRYONE included,
deadlines need to be implemented. SORRY! Just trying to give advanced NPRM about this policy.
The
TICO Airshow
(Titusville Space Center Executive) will take place March 9-11, 2001.
Fred, Walt, Gary, and Sam will be flying. Fred suggests that if you do plan
to go up and to stay overnight make reservations Now because the hotels get
filled up quickly because of the activities going on in that part of Florida,
at that time of year.
More
events are on the horizon, so be on the lookout.
Until
next time, fly safely.
